Managing Sun Bear (Helarctos malayanus) Ex Situ in the Lembah Hijau Wildlife Park, Bandar Lampung
Abstract
International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural (IUCN) listed malayan sun bears (Helarctos malayanus), one of the priority species in Lampung and being seed dispersal agents, as threatened species. Taman Wisata Lembah Hijau is an ex situ habitat of sun bears in Bandar Lampung. Study understanding management of captive sun bears has been done. The method used survey, interview, and secondary data.
The management of the sun bear includes enclosure and exposure space, health, and feeding management. Sun bear cages are managed and given care in the morning, routine health checks are carried out by the keeper and the medical team. Sun bears are fed 2 times a day in the morning and evening with fruits such as bananas and papayas. For seasonal feed corn and rambutan. And seeds to fulfill the needs of giving birth/ lactation/ lust and coconut as enrichment.
